NURIA guide

How NURIA Works

NURIA is a stage-based play system for the early years, designed in Egypt and built by a child psychologist. You choose a kit matched to your child's developmental stage, and it arrives as a calm, considered set with a bilingual book and a play guide that shows you how each piece supports what your child is working on right now. As your child grows, the next kit meets the next stage. It is calm, screen-free, intentional play, where a few good pieces do a great deal.

The stages

NURIA is organised around where your child actually is in their development. There are three kits across the early years:

  • The Builder One, roughly 0 to 12 months (the first year).First discovery: grasping, cause and effect, and the beginnings of coordination.
  • The Persistent One, roughly 12 to 36 months (1 to 3 years).Control, coordination, the patience to try again, and independent exploration.
  • The Thoughtful One, roughly 36 to 72 months (3 to 6 years).Focus, problem-solving, and more considered, imaginative play.

Each kit is designed for its stage, so the pieces meet your child exactly where they are.

What is inside a kit

Each kit is a complete set for its stage, and every one includes a bilingual board book and a play guide. The Builder One, for example, holds seven pieces: The Drop Box, The Nest, a Ring Stack, a First Puzzle, a set of Open Blocks, the board book, and the play guide that ties them together. The pieces are chunky, safe for young hands, and simply finished in quiet materials that leave the playing to your child.

Bilingual, in Arabic and English

Every NURIA kit is bilingual. The board book and the play guide are both in Arabic and English, so reading and play support both languages from the first months, and the guidance reads naturally for parents here. Children grow up moving between the two, and a kit that holds both meets family life as it is actually lived across Egypt and the region.

A book in every kit

Every NURIA kit comes with a book written for its stage: Big and Small with The Builder One, Feelings Around Me with The Persistent One, and Our Morning Together with The Thoughtful One. Each one is a quiet invitation to sit down together, so reading grows alongside play from the very beginning.

The play guide is the difference

A toy on its own is a toy. A toy with a clear, gentle explanation of what your child is practising and how to support it becomes play with a purpose. Every NURIA kit comes with a play guide written from a child-development view: what this stage is really about, what each piece is for, and simple ways to follow your child's lead. It is the part that turns a lovely wooden set into a quiet plan for the months ahead.

Play that grows with your child

The kits are designed as a sequence. What your child practises in an early kit carries forward into the next, where the same skills return at a new level of challenge: from first grasping to fine control, from simple fit to real problem-solving. Each stage builds on the one before it, so play keeps growing alongside your child.

Designed and delivered in Egypt

NURIA is designed in Egypt and delivered across the region, so ordering, delivery and support are built around families here. Staged, developmental play matched to a child's stage has long been admired internationally. This is that idea, made local: the same considered approach, in both your languages, available where you are.

Individual pieces

Alongside the kits, some NURIA pieces are available on their own. Little Cleaners is a wooden, child-sized cleaning set for real-world, hands-on play. The Focus Puzzle, currently in its Alphabet Edition, is a bilingual English and Arabic letter board for early literacy and focus. Each is the beginning of its own line, with more editions and variety to come, so you can add a single piece that suits your child right now. You can see what is currently available in the shop.

Yours to keep, at your own pace

Each NURIA kit is a complete set you buy once for that stage and keep, returned to for as long as it fits. When your child is ready for the next stage, you move to the next kit, at whatever pace suits your family. The timing stays with you.

The pieces are designed to build on each other too. When the next kit arrives, the earlier pieces stay in play and find new uses alongside it, so what you already own keeps its place instead of being outgrown.

Who it is for

NURIA is made for parents who want calmer, more intentional play: fewer, better pieces, a home that feels settled, and a clear sense of what supports their child at each stage. It also suits anyone looking for a meaningful gift that lasts longer than the unwrapping, and families who want all of it in Arabic and English, delivered locally.

Where to start

If you are choosing a first kit, match it to your child's stage: The Builder One for the first year, The Persistent One for roughly one to three years, and The Thoughtful One for the preschool years. You can browse everything, kits and individual pieces, in the shop, and see the current founding release on The Opening Chapter.

Common questions

What is NURIA?

NURIA is a stage-based play system for early childhood, designed in Egypt by a child psychologist. It offers calm, considered kits matched to your child's developmental stage, each with a bilingual book and a play guide that explains what your child is working on and how the pieces support it.

How do NURIA kits work?

Each kit is designed for a stage of the early years: The Builder One for roughly 0 to 12 months (the first year), The Persistent One for about 12 to 36 months (1 to 3 years), and The Thoughtful One for about 36 to 72 months (3 to 6 years). You choose the kit that fits your child now, and move to the next one as they grow. Every kit includes a bilingual book and a play guide.

Is NURIA Montessori?

NURIA is Montessori-inspired rather than strictly Montessori. We have real respect for the Montessori tradition, and we build on several of its principles: natural materials, calm and uncluttered spaces, and play the child leads. Where we tailor it is in the toys themselves. Montessori materials are often designed around a single, self-correcting purpose; our pieces are open-ended, made to be used in more than one way and returned to as a child grows, so play follows the child's imagination rather than a fixed task. We take what serves young children from Montessori, and we shape the rest around how we understand early development.

Are there developmental play kits in Egypt like the international ones?

Yes. NURIA offers staged developmental play kits designed in Egypt and delivered locally, with bilingual Arabic and English books and guides. Each kit is matched to a developmental stage and comes with guidance written by a child psychologist, so families here get considered, stage-matched play locally, in both languages.

Are the kits and guides in Arabic?

Yes. Every kit is bilingual, with Arabic and English books and guides, so play and reading support both languages from the start.

Do NURIA kits grow with my child?

Yes. The kits are designed as a sequence, so what your child practises in an early kit carries into the next at a new level of challenge: first grasping becomes fine control, simple fit becomes real problem-solving. Each stage builds on the one before it.

Do NURIA kits include a book?

Yes. Every kit comes with a bilingual board book written for its stage: Big and Small with The Builder One, Feelings Around Me with The Persistent One, and Our Morning Together with The Thoughtful One.

Can I buy NURIA pieces individually?

Yes. Alongside the kits, individual pieces are available on their own, including Little Cleaners, a wooden child-sized cleaning set, and the Focus Puzzle in its bilingual English and Arabic Alphabet Edition. Each is the start of its own line, with more editions to come.

What comes in a NURIA kit?

Each kit contains four to five open-ended, natural-material toys, a bilingual board book, and a play guide written by a child psychologist. The guide shows you which piece to introduce and when, so the kit supports both your child and you.

Is NURIA a subscription?

No. Each NURIA kit is a complete set you buy once for that stage and keep. When your child is ready, you move to the next stage kit at your own pace, with the timing entirely yours.

Who created NURIA?

NURIA was founded by Dr. Shaza Mostafa, a child psychologist and mother of three, who built the brand around how thoughtful environments and meaningful play support children in the everyday, long before any formal support is needed.
